SIPs: CREATIVE CONSCIENCE

PROJECT AIM: a large scale oil painting displayed throughout TFL of an unsettling, lone figure reflecting body dysmorphia, to target individual viewer through the masses.

research of tube advertisements – particularly the installation collages of characters at Whitechapel

+ a few compositions in chiaroscuro

FEEDBACK

  • Is imagery powerful enough, enough call to action?
  • What’s negotiable? How much power do you lose through the display?
  • How do I know my intention has landed, is that all I need/ want?
  • How does the audience take it? How to capture the evidence?
  • Image enough, or other elements of design to link?
  • Text – info – question – QR code -> exhibition?
  • Should it be solely up for viewer to take action, should i offer more?
  • Where will it lead ? concept art of short film but how do they link to each other?

FOCUS ON MESSAGE + CONTEXT

Perhaps now is the time to approach TFL for elephant and castle –

PROOF OF CONCEPT THEN MAKE CONTACT

VISIT TO ROME was inspiring to see ancient figurative artists.

Some of my favourite works from WOMEN IN REVOLT. The raw power in these paintings and imagery is just a small sample of the potency of the varied politically driven artworks.

I enjoyed the traditional experimentation via sketchbooks and hands-on materials, it felt natural to go back to my roots and reexamine pencil techniques and mark making.

washed out palette to show physical vulnerability

NEXT STEPS: canvas prepping – white emulsion, burnt Sienna wash. followed by blocking of shapes, shadows, under tones.
