Adil Oliver Sharif

Applied to an entry level animator position at Domino Effect via Arts Temps, didn’t hear back so resorted to searching on LinkedIn where I managed to directly contact Adil Oliver Shariff. With unsuccessful rough communication over email, we decided to converse instead over LinkedIn.

Arranged an online meeting to introduced ourselves. I presented previous works and styles, and discussed fine artists as I knew my oil painting background would demonstrate my confidence in this area.

Sharif outlined the project details: an animated documentary using his interview recordings as an audio, in the style of said artist. He sent a list of artists and over the next week I briefly researched their visual style to find which ones resonated with me. From these I focused on a select few, all ranging in concept and theme.

TRYING TO BE BOLD!

Hello Adil! I hope you’re doing well, I would love to reconnect! Since we are both in SE London I was wondering if you’d like to meet in person? I would like to talk more and establish how we proceed as I am very invested in continuing this project, being able to channel my fine art roots is very exciting! I’ve studied Michael Kenny’s work for the past few weeks including some quick sketches and a gif of which I’d like to share with you as I feel the negative space provides lots of ideas for animated transitions and the construction sketches are lovely and simple for character animation. There are plenty of artists whose art I’d love to reproduce in animation format. Please send me some dates you’re available to talk online or in person! Please let me know dates you’re available.

will establish plan:

explain DPS, needed for experience.

what does he want from my skill? concepts? animatic, animation?

needed sound, time frame.

FINALLY met in person and we instantly connected, found ourselves tripping over words + interrupting ourselves with new ideas distracting us because our excitement to collaborate was mutual.

ULTIMATELY: He envisions a 1 min animation (long enough to show energy, makes them want more) of an artist I was most drawn to pthe energy of John Holland], with the aim to approach his wife Beverley + his studio + foundation to gain funding for a feature film / documentary with snippets of animation that I could potentially art direct.(Damien first potential sponsor.

JOHN HOYLAND PROJECT

I need to:

work out potential material expenses. mostly digital, lil bit o mixed

dates to work from, how many per week MARCH to JULY

Layla funding for NOW

Eleha animator to work with

NEED AUDIO -> CUT DOWN 1 MIN -> concept shots, storyboard.

My application for UAL’s Pitch It for funding. I was beyond disappointed to find out I was not a winner due to participants being selected on a randomised basis.

Visiting in person allowed me to converse with the gallery staff and volunteers, I asked them for advice about who to contact and got two emails. Once I have sufficient proof of concept, I will make contact with John Hoyland’s studio and foundation to talk about the pitch.

potential transitions from character animation; to mixed media paintings; to his detailed tracking of his sculptors.
